What “Paleo” Lifestyle Means to our Sous-Chefs

Don’t just take it from us, let our sous-chefs do the talking!

“Paleo is a way of life I never thought I’d be able to embrace. I hardly have time to cook, and eating out has become an almost daily routine. However, even with limited time and tight budget, I can still make Paleo work for my busy lifestyle. The concept is simple – no grains, no sweets…nothing that isn’t “primal”. Even if it means picking up a rotisserie chicken, or ordering a salad while I’m out – these are the food choices that align with the Paleo way of life. So to me, Paleo means I can enjoy a surprisingly wide range of meals, guilt-free, and take care of my body in the process at the same time…a literal win-win!”

Buddy says Paleo means “sausages” to eat. Bear is OK with that, too!
“For me paleo is incorporating a lifestyle that allows you to function at a higher level. It incorporates an anti-inflamatory diet, quality sleep, stress management, exercise, positive social interaction, and spirituality. If one aspect of the lifestyle suffers, so do the rest. If you aren’t getting good quality sleep, your diet alone won’t be enough. If you are exercising, but have a crappy diet, your body will still be inflamed. It is challenging in our modern world of constant screen time, abundant poor food choices, modern stress levels, and constant “go” work mentality to achieve the ideal balance. I’m constantly re-evaluating our families’ priorities to follow a paleo lifestyle.

Bruin agrees with Buddy, “Sausages for everybody!”

“For us Paleo is the way we prefer to “taste” the world. David and I enjoy foods from various cultures and eating Paleo gives us an opportunity to be healthy while doing so. We read about sustainable farming, dissect cook books, visit local and craft eateries, host potlucks and eat most anything; all in the pursuit to have a deeper knowledge about our food. We may not be the most traditional Paleo enthusiasts (we love our dairy and occasional hamburger with the bun) but Paleo is our ideal.”

Amanda & David

“The paleo diet is primarily an anti-inflammatory diet. Many of our major modern diseases are linked to inappropriate, sustained sub-clinical levels of inflammation, or as Dr. Barry Sears says, “silent inflammation”. This inflammation in brought on by diet and lifestyle and mitigated by those same factors. We strive to eat well and want to enjoy life, which also includes the joy of cooking and, more importantly, the joy of eating! We don’t follow a strict paleo diet but have gleaned a way of living and eating from many of our favorite paleo/primal guru’s, like Chris Kresser, Mark Sisson, and the folks at the Whole9. We have found satisfaction, peace of mind, and good health in this way of eating and hope you do as well.
